What is the No-Show quota?
A very tiresome topic that many restaurateurs know from their own experience and usually cannot do anything about it. The no-show quota or no-show means that reservations made in restaurants are simply not noticed and the guest does not appear at the agreed time. Often guests make reservations for the same day and time not only in one restaurant, but in two or even more restaurants.
By this way, the guest can decide at short notice if I go to the Italian restaurant or rather to the Greek restaurant of the neighboured place. What means freedom for the guest can be quite expensive for the restaurant. This is because the kitchen and the service prepare themselves for the number of guests, the food is bought and prepared accordingly. There are costs for the gastronomer that cannot be recovered by the absence of the guests.
Deposit payment with reservations
Many restaurant owners believe that it is not feasible to require a deposit directly with the table reservation. In France, Great Britain and the USA it has long been common practice to charge the guest a deposit at the time of reservation and deduct this amount from the restaurant bill later. Why is this not implemented in other countries? Sometimes restaurateurs already implement a deposit payment at the time of reservation, but very few still dare to do so.
In other restaurants they sometimes overbook in order to make up for the no-shows, which can of course backfire if there are no no-shows on that day.
What can I do to reduce the no-show rate?
The best way is certainly to ask for a deposit when you reserve a table. Now here comes our table reservation system into the game!
With the online table reservation system you can either ask for a deposit for all reservations or you can ask for a deposit only for certain days, such as holidays or weekends. This is your decision and you can set this individually.
If the guest now makes a reservation on a day where you want a deposit payment, the guest will be shown directly at the selection date/time that a deposit payment is required for this reservation. The reservation is carried out by the guest and paid directly online e.g. with PayPal or credit card to your account. The guest will now receive an email with all details of the reservation, in which, if you wish, a link for cancellation is also possible.
On the day the guest comes to visit you in your restaurant he will receive another reminder mail. The time when this mail should be sent, you can set individually in the software for table reservation.
